how to send encrypted internet mail

I need to send someone encrypted mail. I downloaded a certificate from Verisign. How does this work with Notes 6.5? The recipient is not in my company, will be sent across the internet, and the recipient may not be a Lotus Notes user. How do I send them the encryption key?

This encrypting stuff is new to me. Any help would be appreciated.
