How to Send and e-mail based on an external event 1

We have a seperate PC that runs a build at 5am and would like to have it send out an e-mail when the build fails. How could I do that. The build machine is running Win2K and we use the Lotus R5 client normally but I'm not certain what is running on the Build Machine. The build script is a standard DOS script so something that can be done from a DOS prompt would be ideal. Writing an application to do this is also an option if need be but is more work. Also, how do I handle login/password athentication? Would the Lotus client need to be running?
