Hi - I am just curious about this.....

One day I went to a design website that has since gone offline......and I saw something called the parent directory instead of the index I wanted to see. In that page was listed every single item of the website.

Is it possible to see what a website contains, like how many pages?

How do you do that?

Thanks
Tina

the parent directory or page is basically another word for the index page for the site. What you may have seen is a tree view of the site. This is a common way to show a site map etc.. you can see how to do this here
I help at your own risk, if I brake it sorry! But if I fixed it, let me know with a

Hi,

The Parent Directory is a link to the root directory of the web site, or the next directory in the config.

To get that to appear, you must have directory listings enabled on the web server that you are using, and simply do not add a default document to the directory in question.

For example, if the server default is index.html and that is the only file it looks for, if you do not have an index.html and directory listings are enabled, then the directory listing is shown.

Hope this helps Wullie
