I am having difficulty saving a data file (using Open Office) within the Knoppix CD (OS not mounted on the harddisk).

I can save the file alright under /home/knoppix/office/user/Printertrial-Mar.3,05.sxw
but, as soon as reboot the computer the file disappeared. Is it because it is on the RAM disk?

Where can I save this file, so that I can access it again?

Your help would be appreciated.

Charles.

You certainly shouldn't expect RAM filesystems to survive reboot. ;-)

You CAN mount the local harddisk partitions or NFS partitions on other servers while using Knoppix. Then you can save most anything you'd like.

To thedaver: Thank you for your answer.

My question now is: What is the command I should use for mounting the local harddisk partitions, so that I can save my files to it, created by Linux, Open Office?

Thank you very much for your help.
Charles.

If it is FAT32 you can right click on the hda1 icon, go to .. Device I think, and uncheck "Read-Only". Then close out of that. Right click on the drive and if it says "Unmount" do that, then double click it again to re-mount it with write permissions.

If you use an NTFS filesystem, such as used by Windows 2000 and most Windows XP systems, locate Captive in your System menu (I think, don't have it in front of me). Follow the Captive wizard to make your drive writable. NTFS requires you to use the Windows driver so it has to find it on your system (or download it for you) as it can't be redistributed.
