Hi folks,

We just restructed our exchange environment, and I need a little help.

Here is our current configuration:

Exchange 2k3 = Front End Server
(2) Exchange 2000 std = Back End Server

Right now, all exchange servers can send outbound SMTP email independently.

Here is what we want to do:
1. Route all Outbound SMTP email through the front end server.

We want all inbound and outbound messages to go through the Front End Server. Bascially removing all SMPT servers internally.

How would I go about configuring the 2 back end server to relay the messages to the SMTP server on the Front End Server?

Any infomation or insight would greatly be appreciated.

Hi,

I think if you set a smarthost pointing to the front end server on the backend server. This will give you what you want.

In Exchange System Manager, browse to the properties of Default SMTP Virtual Server.

Delivery tab, then advanced.

Put the IP address of the front end server in square brackets

[???.???.???.???]

Click OK.

Restart exchange services, and that should do it.
