How to retain the actual file date when adding a file to CVS

Hi,
When ever I am checking in a file the actual date on the file shown in CVS gets changed. It is some arbitary date nor the last modified date and neither the creation date.
How do I resolve this problem.
I need to have the correct date on the files when i check in so that i have the correct date on the files when I checkout.
