How to Restart a Windows 2000 server remotely ?

Is there a way with which i can restart a windows 2000 server remotely ?

We have 3 windows 2000 server machines in our office

1) Windows 2000 domain controller,DHCP server, DNS server
2) Some application based windows 2000 server
3)Some application based windows 2000 server


The 2nd server keeps going down some time, i mean we cannot connect to the applications which are there in
the 2nd windows 2000 server, so to resolve the issue we physically go to the server and restart it and everything works fine.

I guess there is a some windows issue to be resolved.

Now if i am not in the office during night time and sometimes if the 2nd server goes down , is there a way
i can reboot the system.

NOTE:
All the 3 servers has VNC installed on it.I can connect from my home as well to one of the main box ( server 1 )

But from there if i want to connect to server 2 to restart through VNC , it doesnt even connect as the server as the VNC is not listening .


Is there any other way i can restart this SERVER 2 ?
From the domain controller or anything else ?

There is this great software that I have come across that i'm using trying to reboot all of the computers in my network, but it is designed to reboot each machine at a time. e-mail me at ***** sluther@idexcorp.com ***** and i will send you a copy of the zip file. I also have a VB script with that capability as well. Feel free to use either

Open a computer management console for the machine you want to restart. I usually right-click the My Computer desktop icon and select Manage, then right-click Computer Management and select Connect to another computer. From the list, select the remote system you want to restart. Click OK.
In the new window, right-click Computer Management and select Properties.
In the dialog box that opens, select the Advanced tab.
Click the Startup and recovery Settings button.
Click Shut Down. The dialog box that opens will give you some shutdown options (e.g., Restart, Power down). Select the option you want and click OK.

I'm running Terminal Services on our three servers. I log into the main one, then can connect to the other two. Management is easy and I can restart either of the other two from my main server if necessary. I can also restart the main server once the other two are up. Works fine for me.

Chris,

I was trying your method of rebooting the server
from another machine.

I had opened up the Computer Management console on
Server 3 and right clicked and said connect to "SERVER 2"

It got connected. And when i right click and say properties
it gives me an error message

" RPC: Remote Calls are not allowed for this process"


Any help !!!!!!!!!!1

Let me clear myself , there are 2 things here

1) Restarting a computer remotely when the server is
able to talk to rest of the network. (using terminal,
VNC, console ..etc.. )

2) Sometimes the whole Server 2 freezes and does not
talk to any of the computer in the network. Then
is there a way i can reboot it remotely ?

I've heard of power supplies with built in modems that may help in this case. Got any computer equipment supply catalogs laying around? You may want to look into something like that or possibly KVM switches that offer remote boot capabilities. Pretty sure I've seen these type of things out there. Dunno if this is as helpful as you're hoping for. May cost some dinero...

Have you check to see if you bios supports the action you require since you may be able to set in your bios power section have the system always reboot. You should really look into resolving the problem before it escalates to been critical later on. I hope you are backing up you important data.
