How do I reset the internal modem admin password to program system changes.

I first tried a direct connection to the admin port using the specified 355AF adapter to a DB25 to DB9 adapter to the PC DB9 serial port with a D8W 87 cord. (there are two and I tried both using COM 2 port at 2400) I kept getting correction errors.

So I tried the internal modem connection via the 016 ETR circuit board using *10 and I get enter password login message.

The problem is that the previous system user has the password and I can go no further without it.

The admin port on the processor is the bottom one, and it should not require a password. Your SPM com port setting is asking for the com port on your PC. You have a connection/setup problem. Which com port on your pc are you using? I just try them all until one works, if not sure. It could also be that the admn port is bad. Good luck.

If you connect to the system directly via the admin port - you do not need a password. The serial port on the PC should be set to 1200 baud - to be safe. WinSPM should automatically pop up a serial port configuration window - to get it right for your operating system. Make sure you have it connected correctly. From computer 9-pin serial port to a 9-pin to 25-pin adapter, to the 355AF adapter and then standard straight-thru (not crossover) ethernet cable to the admin port on the system. If the connection is as specified above - and you still cannot connect - try resetting the processor RS232 ports from maintenance. That can be done from an operator phone.

The PC has only two ports and I tried both using COM 2 and 2400 baud rate. I only used the bottom admin port on the Magix and not the SMDR port.

The internal modem connection works.....but I do not know the password to finish entering the system administration mode. The previous system administrator was the only one who had the password.

I am going to try resetting the processor RS232 ports from maintenance to see if I can get a direct connection going.

If that fails, is there anyway to reset the internal modem connection password? or is there a standard default password that can be tried?

There is a standard password the varies a little based on the version of processor and software - however - if it has been changed - the only way to reset it is by connecting thru the admin port or via modem. When you connect via the admin port you need to print the system set-up report - which will show you what the system password has been set to.

As for the connection from your PC - assuming you have Windows XP and a newer Legend CKE4 or Magix CKE5 processor - setup the serial port parameters on either Com1 or Com2 as follows: Port Speed = 2400; Data Protocol = disabled; Compression = disabled; Flow Control = none. If it is an older processor CKE3 or below - drop the Port Speed to 1200 baud.
