Hey guys. Just a helpful tip.
If you're like me and you like reselling/playing around with old Norstar systems, then you've probably come across a unit that you don't know the password of.
To reset the password back to the default (266344, which spells "CONFIG"), follow the steps below. This applies to the NORSTAR 616 KSU ONLY.
*WARNING: following these steps will result in a total wipe of all settings on the unit, proceed with caution!*
1. Power OFF your system (or else you will permanently damage if if you continue without doing so).
2. Remove the software cartridge (located on the top-left of the unit).
3. Remove the screws on the back of the software cartridge and take it apart.
-You should see a little circuit board that is wedged in between 2 pieces of plastic.-
4. There is a little circular 3 volt battery on the circuit board. This battery stores the password along with all other programming.
5. You will need to short out the battery in order to reset the password/programming. Get a small jumper wire, and put one end on the top of the battery, and the other on the small end of the battery that is on the left of it. Keep the wire there for around 3 seconds.
When you power on your system, it will be totally wiped and the password will be back to the default 266344.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip. Most of us who are "in the know" are already aware of that method but we tend to use the Feature **debug facility to find the password. This enables you to leave the programming intact.

darthvader167 your method could damage and/or reduce the charging ability of the capacitor. It works but I don't recommend it.
