ArcServe 2k SP4 on Win2k SP2
Library fix installed

On one of my six backup servers the database is corrupt:
unable to add session to database, unable to logon to database, cannot read from DB, unable to position media drive, etc...
Many, many too many error messages attached to Database Engine.

Nothing changes on the server and it have run 6 month...
Don't understand this f**ked soft!!! Is there any logic in?
Can I recover or is it losed?
Or is there any (more stable) other solution than CA?

I'll like to sleep the night ;o)

Thank you in advance

Hi
This link explain how to maintain you Ramia Database

if you want to rest the database you need to go to
-Start-->Programs-->ArcserveIT-->Server Admin
-click on Database Engine tab
-from Menu select operation-->Initilize Database
-select all databases

if you are using SQL database run SetupSql.exe and
overwrite the database.

I use Ramia DB and see that it is good maintained.
The database is only 7,6 GB and limits are 36 GB.
The prunning was set (6 month before) on 30 days.
Etc..

I'll already test to erease (move) R*.* files from database --> not working
I'll tested to erease (move) entire database --> not ok

I search with HP support to solve this issue. I don't want to lose the DB anyway.

Thx

Hi
The errors you are talking about indicate that you have
a problem with your database and you need to
run dbcheck, dbfix to fix those errors you can find them
in the this link

the other and easy option is to Initilize the database
if you want to rest the database you need to go to
-Start-->Programs-->ArcserveIT-->Server Admin
-click on Database Engine tab
-from Menu select operation-->Initilize Database
-select all databases

Those only the options available to get rid of your problems

I thank you for your support but the problem is great...

I do a dbcheck but the utility does not run:
PROBLEM: Failed to log into server 'arcserve', username 'admin': error -2005.
RESOLUTION: The VLDB utility can not log into the database. The most likely causes are that the ARCserve database engine needs to be started or the server name entered is incorrect (it should be arcserve).

The problem is the servername is correct and the engine started.
I try to set another system account, a local account with blank pass --> same error
I set system account to DB service --> same error
So I tested the keybuild but it seems the same...

I hesitate to re-initialise the database but it can be the only way...

Thanks a lot for support Mohamdr ;o)

I tested dbcheck on my other servers and it do not run anywhere (same error code).
The database service runs under "system" account...

Funny :eek:|

Fyi

Hi
I don't know how you run dbcheck

dbcheck -a -L arcserve;admin;secret astpsdat

database objects
asjob
asmedia
asobject
asrhost
astape
astpdrv
astpsdat

is it not working try
dbcheck -a -L casdb;admin;secret astpsdat

Thx Mohamdr,
but the syntax is explained in the document you give ;o)
I think I used in the good way...

I'm surprised to read: "Use this utility weekly" because my predecessor taked backup in charge during 3 years and I never seen he used this. We never had a problem with DB. Lucky guys we are but if it do not run...

I started this morning with a fresh DB. A merge is in progress to test it.

I thank you verry much for your support

Hi
go the link
copy and paste whatever you want to do, remove the REM
to activate the command and put it in a Batch file and
put it in Post backup run job.
if this way whenever the backup finish you database will
be checked after each backup and this make sure your database is safe at any point
