On my Win 7 machine with many browsers installed (for testing) I recently got bitten by the system-fix trojan. Screwed my system up really bad.

One recurring issue is that all my browsers have been hijacked meaning that if I enter a search into my search bar and access the search engine I get the desired results displayed but when I click on ANY links offered I get sent to off ball sites, some marketing, some porn, some others, just unwanted material.

I've been trying to research and resolve this with no luck yet. I am hoping that someone here has experienced this and successfully resolved this same issue or any other issues caused by the system fix trojan.

I eagerly await some helpful hints and ideas. Thanks [sad]

as mentioned by Turkbear and Linney, use the mentioned antimalware apps and preferrable in the following order...

first: SuperAntiSpyware
second: Malwarebytes AntiMalware
third: Combofix

and if you are still experiencing a problem, then follow up with:

HiJackThis from the TrendMicro website...

and post the HiJackThis LOG, after the cleaning from above...

Thanks all - but still no luck in removing the hijacked browsers.
As requested, here is the hijack output log:

I actually selected everything to run and after a reboot the browsers still are hijacked (I think I already said that).

Any more ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't recall ever seeing a Hijack This log with so many "file missing" comments. I wonder whether it is time to save your valuable data then reformat and and reinstall Windows?

Nothing really obvious, except that which Linney already mentioned, but those are just minor issues...

now in a CLI command window (DOS prompt) enter the following commands:

netsh winsock reset catalog

and reboot when prompted... test again...

then by all means get rid off all those Search Bars (Bing etc.) and update your Java...

report back...

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

If you have tried the following (in the following order) and things are not improved, a format/reload is in your future UNLESS you want to spend a huge amount of time piddling with it.

1. MalwareByte's Anti-malware FULL SCAN
2. TDSS Killer
3. Check hosts file 4. Combofix

Yes I have tried all of the above suggestions/recommendations and unfortunately none resolved my desktops problems. So I've backed up all my preserved FILES (not any programs) to a NAS and in the next day or two its reinstall from a Win7 Distro CD. I anticipated restoring from the RECOVERY DRIVE provided by the mfg (HP) but it wouldn't even boot. Go figure.

Thanks all for all your ideas. This is a great forum for assistance when needed.

One of the finer points to malware removal is to know when to give up! If it's your computer and you feel like fighting the stuff for a couple of weeks now and then, it's cool.

If you're on the clock at work or repairing someone's PC, you have to call it a day at some intelligent point to be fiscally prudent. It think if it's on a work computer, it would be better to give up sooner rather than later from a security perspective. You don't want other PCs to get hit and you don't want any data leaving the building or passwords compromised.
