In "My Computer" the drive is recognized to full capacity.
When I check system properties>devicemanager>Disk Drives
my Maxtor comes up as Generic IDE Disk Type 47, I want to change this to Maxtor 120GB IDE.
Can you instruct.
My OS is Windows 98 second edition.

Right click the drive in My Computer, select properties.

There is a field to change the name.

Your antivirus software may balk at this, just let it allow the change.

I don't think you can change this entry in device manager - need to edit registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\ESDI\GENERIC_IDE__DISK_TYPE47_
Has an entry for each disk drive bemlow it - mine look like

MF&CHILD0000&PCI&VEN_1106&DEV_0571&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_06&BUS_00&DEV_07&FUNC_0100
MF&CHILD0000&PCI&VEN_1106&DEV_0571&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_06&BUS_00&DEV_07&FUNC_0110

Each has a DeviceDesc string value below it - containing GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE47. You can change this to what you want.

Doh!

I was half asleep and the only thing that registered was changing a drive name. Geeze!
