We have 4 machines in LAN.
After runing Norten Antivirus on one machine which was connected to internet. Scaning was going on & we disconnected net in between. Antivirus started scaning virus in other machines also. It was going on giving error that virus....detected & repaired sucessfully. Please press C to continue. This message was coming for longer time.
After that, we removed LAN card connection from this machine and again run antivirus. Then it scanned & stopped after some time. But on the other machines the Outlook express was opening automatically & frequesntly. It was not saving any files in Microsoft word giving error Out of Memory. Our Data Base programme (VB, ORACLE)also got affected & we are now unable to run it.Also it is creating some blank folders on the Desktop.

What operating system is the PC running?

1. If Windows XP or Me, you need to disable system restore first (start -> right click my computer -> properties -> system restore -> untick "Enable system restore on all drives).
2. Then, reboot into safe mode (different instructions apply depending on what operating system you are running; if you use NT 4 it is called VGA mode instead).
3. Run a full antivirus scan with Norton, ensuring its definitions are right up to date.
4. Run a scan with McAfee stinger (download this on a different PC from which can find and clean up the most common in the wild viruses.
5. Reboot normally, if the PC is OK, all is well, and reverse step 1 to re enable system restore. If not, run HijackThis and post a log file here for analysis.
