I have one server come with the Windows 2003 Server and act as domain controller. This is a centralized server to keep all document files.

There are 5 windows XP SP2 PCs link to the above server. They are configured as WORKGROUP (not DOMAIN - this is the company rule) and link under same IP range by using the fix IP (same as server configuration).

User log in windows XP through the local account. The 5 PCs above will then give a access to the the above shared folder through \\<server A>\<shared folder> .

My question is out of the 5 PCs, only 2 PCs ONLY will alert the user and password screen/dialog but not to the remaining PCs. What is the root cause for the differences between the 2 and 3 PCs?

We don't want to switch all WORKGROUP PCs to the Domain PCs and prefer to local windows account since this is just a small LAN. How can I remove the screen/dialog above because we don't need this at the same time remain all existing configuration?

Go to Control Panel/User Accounts/Advanced/Manage Passwords and enter the link and the credentials they will need to use.

1) Nothing appear after key in "control userpasswords2" and press [ENTER] at command prompt

2) I am not sure what you have suggested above can help can get rid of the user name and password dialog / screen when access to shared folder.

3) Is there any method where I can edit directly through the windows registry? If yes, what is the path, key and value?

Are these XP Pro or Home Editions?

Sorry that command doesnt function properly in command prompt. Do it from Start/Run

The reason for this search is the GUI app that is built in to register location/username and password for your delima.
