I noticed that Vista automatically create shadow copies of user profiles...at least that's what I see so far. How do I remove some of these copies so it does not take too much of my space?

I think the question of Shadow Copies is tied up with System Restore. If you stop System Restore it should stop the Shadow Copying.

Have a look at "Previous versions of files: frequently asked questions" in the Vista Help Program.

Thanks! I know that with Windows 2003 Server I can specify which folder to do shadow copy and able to delete them. But with Vista, you're saying it's impossible without turning off System Restore? Well, I guess I have no choice then.

Thanks again.

Vista is able to Synchronize Offline Files with another machine, is that of any use?

I can use that...but I'm not asking for synchronization. I'm asking if there is a way to delete certain versions of the shadow copy but keep the system restore intack.

When Vista finds some changes to it's integrity, such as Deletions of Shadow Copies, it might scrub the remainder as being untrustworthy.

This explains what I am trying to say (not too clearly).

No restore points are available when you use Windows Vista or Windows Server "Longhorn" in a dual-boot configuration together with an earlier Windows operating system

Many thanks for pointing that out. I just that it would be a way to delete them like in Windows 2003 server...but I guess not. Thanks for explaining.
