How to remove Message Journaling?

I used to simply use the imsext.dll to journal all inbound and outbound SMTP mail to other mailboxes - Glasgow Admin for filing of all incoming and Outgoing Mail for archiving all outgoing, respectively (see MS article 262122). This worked perfectly well until we then needed to capture copies of all internal mail as well, so I followed the steps in MS article 239427. This allowed me to then capture copies of ALL mail, incoming/outgoing/internal/external (into Archive Mail). However, it also started capturing mail passing through to other WW offices. This became a MAJOR headache for the admin staff here as it meant they had to open up EVERY email to determine whether it was Glasgow-bound and should be saved, or just ignored. So, I took off the general Exchange message journaling and returned it to the imsext.dll only. However, we are still getting copies of emails for all other internal offices.

Thanks, John

You might want to reboot your server for the registry change to take effect.

Back on your original "headache" problem, you could set up individual site journaling

"set up journaling on a sitewide basis, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeMTA\Parameters, add the value entry Per-Site Journal Required of type DWORD, and set the value to 1."
