I was changing the input-device eeprom setting and incorrectly set a non existant variable "inputdevice". Now I have a setting called "inputdevice" when I qurey eeprom. I tried setting it to blank but it is still there. Does anynone know how to remove this variable completely from the eeprom? Thanks.

you can set the eeprom to factory defaults, just press STOP-N while powering on; I'm not sure how to reset it if the machine is connected to a terminalconcentrator (eg annex, Cisco 25xx);

daFranze, thank you for your reply. I don't really want to reset every entry to factory default, but just remove this one entry from the eeprom.

How did you try to set it to blank? Using the eeprom command while the OS is booted, or at the {ok} prompt?

If the former, perhaps try the latter. You could also try set-default inputdevice. There doesn't seem to be an unsetenv command, unless it is undocumented... here's the OpenBoot Forth Reference:

Annihilannic.

Ok, got the answer to this one. I forgot to mention that this is an x86 Solaris version. In x86 there is a file /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc which contains all the settings for EEPROM. This file can be edited to remove junk entries. This file does not exist on a SPARC box, I guess because it has an acutal PROM chip.

Like any other system file you should use caution when editing this file.

My thanks to those who repiled to this question.
