Hi,

My Vista system got virus attack and I think I have removed the virus. But, on the desk, the icons' and the folder windows' position and size was changed. I then organized the icons' and the folder windows' position and size. However, after restart my Vistar, it just re-organized any thing on the desktop.

Will you kind enough to tell me what I can do?

First thing I would do is right click on the desktop and make sure that "Auto arrange icons" isnt checked under View.

Thank you DrB0b.

Yes, the "Auto arrange icons" is unchecked.
I also tried to select Classic Icons, after restart it back to Medium Icons.

When I do sfc /SCANNOW, it said:
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

However, I just cannot understand the CBS.log file.

How sure are you that you got all of the virus out? Personally I would back up important data and reformat to alleviate all issues here because it sounds like this might not be the only one to come.

If you have a Vista disc, you can first try a Windows Repair to see if that helps any, but it sounds like you have damaged OS files that may be needed to keep things in check.

I know in Windows 7 I have to right-click on the desktop and do a manual "refresh" to get the icons to stay put after I change them. I don't know about Vista, but it's worth a try.

Thanks a lot!
guitarzan,

After parse the log file, I did get some error message, one of them is:
2012-08-28 04:37:59, Info CSI 000001b5 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:14{7}]"afd.sys" of Microsoft-Windows-Winsock-Core, Version = 6.0.6002.18457, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing
Accoding to the instruction, I need to do something like
takeown /f E:\windows\system32\afd.sys
but, I donnot know where is the good file afd.sys in my computer? I got no E:\ folder....

Can you help?

I have tried to restore my Vista to the point of a month ago (my problem happened only a few days).
However, it cannot resolve my problem.
