how to refer to a button property using action script

i'm a newbird in flash5 and i'm try to set the poperty of a button using action script, but i juz dun know how to refer to the button as refer to a movie clip as the has name property by a button dun so pls if any one know pls help me

You can't refer or change a button's properties!
You put your button in a movie clip, and refer to that movie clip's instance name as:

buttonmovieclip._x = 150;
buttonmovieclip._alpha= 50;
buttonmovieclip._visible= false;
Etc...Etc...
