Hi

I am using Crystal 8.5.

I went to run a report today that I've run successfully in the past and I got the dreaded "Crystal Reports has encountered a problem and needs to close". I rebooted the computer but the problem persists. All other reports are running as expected.

Is there any way to recover it if it is corrupt? Thanks very much.

Hi,
Just an idea - copy the report to a different location and see it it helps.

Are you running it from Designer or from a shortcut?

Hi Turkbear!

Thanks for replying. I already thought of that and tried it and it still crashed.

I'm running it from Crystal itself so not a short cut. I've asked the IT department to see if there is a saved back up copy of my files to see if an earlier version is okay but I haven't run this report in a month so it's very strange that it would all of a sudden not be working.

If it is corrupt and you really need it there is a company that claims to be able to recover corrupted RPT files. At least they did a few years ago when a customer of mine used them.

Hi,
You might look in the event logs on the PC ( assuming Windows) to see if more details are listed for the crash.

Hi

Thanks Ken and Turkbear! I've followed up with eTech to see what they say..they offer free consults on the job after seeing the file. I've also yet to hear from the IT department to find out if they can restore the report from a back up copy.

I'll let you know how it turns out..thanks for replying.

One note, if you can open it successfully and it crashes only when run, then it probably isn't corrupt. It may have a formula or feature that is trying to do something it isn't supposed to do.

Hi Ken

Thanks but it won't even open...just causes Crystal Reports to close with the error message. As I mentioned, the report hasn't changed since the last successful run so this is weird.
