I do the following under 8.0.5.0.0

alter index index1 rebuild storage (
initial 128k next 128k);

But after the rebuild, the index is actually stored in 140k extents.

Does anybody know why?

I would have thought that tis is because of your DB block size?? Oracle has to create the index's extents in chunks of DB Block size (in your init .ora) So I would have thought that 128 does not divide by your DB Block size but 140 does. I wouldn't worry about it either, although in future you may as well bear your DB Block size in mind so what you attempt to create matches what is created bang on.

HTH,

Mike.
