how to read the disk serial number in Solaris environment

the iostst -E will give the serial number, but the number maybe not correct , I found that if the disk be replaced, the serial number will not change.
 
Do you have Veritas Volume Manager installed?

If so, try:

[tt]/usr/lib/vxvm/diag.d/vxdmpinq /dev/rdsk/cNtNdNs2[/tt]

There may be other SCSI inquiry tools out there you can use. I tried the Legato one, but it doesn't report the disk serial number.

If not, reboot, then iostat -En output will be correct again.
