how to read ssl enabled emails.

It's a matter of the ports used, but you need additional components indeed, to create an ssl tunnel, stunnel for example.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks for reply, It was working with aol. but from couple of days this code reply Error Connecting.

So what has changed? Did they really switch from normal to only ssl connections, or did you change something in your config, computer, router?

Nothing software suddenly stops working without any change or hardware defect or config change.

Bye, Olaf.

Yes, software (this module) suddenly stops working output any change, and not config/hardware change.

Not sure, is aol switch standard to ssl ?

That's what you said, I can't tell you, AOL could tell you.

If you just guess AOL did switch to only support SSL, why do you think so?

Bye, Olaf.

why do you think so? "

because it is not working.. suddenly.

And there is only this one exlpanaition? They switched to SSL?

Lets simply sop here and Concentrate on facts. You used that code with our credentials and it stops working.

Does any standard mail client you configure according to AOL instructions work and gets your mails?

Bye, Olaf.

One more thing is this code was / is not working with gmail and hotmail. I have tried for that, but was working with aol.

When this code failed to work with aol, I started to find out reason. I log-in to aol-mail and open setting, I found the pop setting as follows..

POP Setup Information

Email Address: xxxx@aol.com

POP Username: xxxx@aol.com

Incoming Mail Server: pop.aol.com
Remember to check the option for leaving messages on the server

SMTP Outgoing Server Address: smtp.aol.com
Set the port to 587

SMTP Username: xxxx@aol.com

SMTP Password: same as used to login to Mail
For a secure connection check the SSL option for IMAP/POP and TLS for SMTP in your mail program.

OK, good, and so the code did not suddenly stopped working with AOL, but you tested it with AOL for the first time, do I understand that right?

Bye, Olaf.

Yes, I checked MS Outluk.

I configure outluk,

1) SSL not enabled : No inbox mail called.

2) SSL enabled : The small window/box appear with following info.

The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified.

The target principal name is incorrect.

<View Certificate>

Do you want to continue using this server ?

Yes

Issued to : imap.aol.com
Issued by : AOL Member CA
valid from : 09/08/2011 to 09/07/2013

so, there is some issue with the SSL certificate, but oulook can still get the mails. I can't help you with the certificate, AOL may help you there.

imap.aol.com points to using the IMAP protocol, the code from Bereniker is not for IMAP, with or without SSL.

IMAP differs from POP3, see here:
You can't use Bereznikers code for such a mail server.

You could try out Chilkats IMAP ActiveX control with their sample code:
Bye, Olaf.

I tried "Chilkats" it is not free.

I am not expert. I can't change Bereniker ' code. you are requested to change if you know.

Thanks & Best Regards.

You can't change that code from POP to IMAP, this is a total rewrite. I'm sorry for you, if you can't afford Chilkat, but you ask something not done with a few clicks here and there.

Searching imap with I find a reference to which is cheaper.

You may google a bit more, if you find something free.

Bye, Olaf.

Thank you for your support.

Olaf, Can you advice some email servers which not using SSL.

In my experience most any mail server is not using ssl.

Get a domain yourself and choose a webhoster providing pop3 mail accounts without ssl, it's the usual offer anyway, as an ssl certificate of any major certificate authority costs more than domain and hosting space together.

But the main thing is not ssl or no ssl, it's pop3/smtp vs imap. You could use the code of berezniker, if it was only about ssl authentication, because as I stated in my first answer already, ssl is just on top of it and can be solved by stunnel. But this won't help you with IMAP.

Bye, Olaf.

I have decided to get my own domain & webhoster providing pop3 mail accounts without ssl.

Thanks & Best Regards.
