how to read foreign language PC docs on macs?

I have a bunch of Macs running classic and soon to be switching to Panther with Word v.X. One problem we always had with Word 98/2001 is that these programs cannot open PC word docs created using MS IME (for any language). They always turn out to be gibberish. Have the new Word v.X fixed this problem? Can they actually type it also??
I"m most concerned about Hebrew (which apparently Apple has just gotten around to adding with Panther) but I would like compatibilty with other languages also. Is this asking too much or has Apple or a third party gotten around to support this on Macs??
