Hello to all...

I've installed Suptools.msi so that I can run dumpchk.exe to view a .dmp file. I know this utility is command line based but each time I go to Start/Run/Cmd and type in dumpchk mini062904-01.dmp, I receive:

Loading dump file mini062904-01.dmp
**** DebugClient cannot open DumpFile - error 80070002

Is there something that I'm missing or does this mean there's something wrong with this dump file?

How would I go about doing this? I'm logged onto the PC as the local admin.

Thx for your reply

I tried to read .dmp files in the past on a NT server, and it was absolutely the worst experience in my life, or nearly so. Hopefully reading dump files is easier on the newer 2000 and XP.

My trouble was that I could run the quick summary version of the program but I couldn't make much sense of it. When I tried to run the complete program, it said I needed to download and install numerous templates (more if I'd added hotfixes) of some sort (right now I don't remember the exact type) which were 10's of megabytes in size. It never worked for me. What a nightmare!

All I wanted was just to see the SCREEN shown when it failed but I never managed to get a good look at it. Since it was a server, we had it set to reboot on a BSOD, so the error screen only stayed up for as long as the systems was writing the dump file. I always got there too late since it often happened overnight.

Eventually we removed some printer drivers and that made the problem go away.

Are your permissions for MiniDump correct? Is the Error still being displayed or something else using the MiniDump file?

Have a look in the Event Viewer (at the System folder and also the Application one). This will show you details of system errors you are having. Event Viewer is found in Computer Management via right clicking on My Computer icon.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any error I.D. number and search for it on this site.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.
