The "J" key on my Sony VAIO laptop computer is broken and the stub has become very unreliable . I called the repairshop, and I was told this will take four days to fix and at a cost enough to buy a cheap used laptop. I don't have 4 days or so much to spend on solving this so I hit on an idea: Why not reassign one of the useless keys (like F10) to register as "J" instead ?
Anyone know how to do this ?

You could check to see if the keyboard drivers for your laptop have this functionality already installed on your computer (Start >Control Panel >Keyboard), I doubt this though. Other than that there are a few options you could do. Try a third party utility like KeyTweak. You could use Windows On-Screen Keyboard (Start >Run >type osk, although I doubt you would want to have to type your J with the mouse everytime you needed to. Purchase a cheap USB keyboard and use it until you can replace your keyboard. Check out or and see if you can find a keyboard for your model for a reasonable price.

Thanks;. The keytweak approach looks the more feasible, though I thought there should be a OS resident means of assigning ascci characters to keyboard strokes
