Hi! Our DBA is out this week but I need to stop and restart our Teradata database server residing on a Windows 2000 Server.
There are probably different ways to restart a Teradata service instance, the server, the listener etc.. (I'm more familiar with Oracle.)

Could anyone give me a quick pointer? Thanks in advance!
Regards, Nancy

Why do you need to restart Teradata?

Open the Database Window:
Start -> Programs -> Teradata RDBMS -> Database Window

Click on the "Supvr" icon and enter:
restart tpa any comment why there was a restart

or
Open MultiTool:
Start -> Programs -> Teradata RDBMS -> Teradata MultiTool

Click on the Reset-Button.

Dieter.
Datrabase bouncing is part of our tests. That's why we need to restart the server. Thank you very, very much for your timely help!

Sorry to bring this up again:
The restart tpa command issued from Teradata Database Windows worked but the network trace didn't show a smooth shutdown.
Is there a more graceful way to restart the Teradata Server, either in one step or in several steps?
Thank you!
Regards, Nancy

What do mean by "smooth shutdown"?
Do you expect the server to kindly ask all client sessions to disconnect?

Dieter

Our customers said when they restart their Teradata Server on Unix, they could see a FIN in the network trace. But this FIN is not in the network trace that we captured during the restart of our Teradata Server on Windows.
I'm not sure whether this behavior was caused by the difference of Teradata being on Unix verses on Windows; or maybe I am suppose to use a different command/tool to have a graceful shutdown.
Thank you.
Regards, Nancy
