I have a black US Robotics modem V.92 to replace a faulty modem on an Option 11 PBX for dialup. I am connected to the modem using hyperterminal and get a response from the modem by typing ATDT.
What is the programming sequence to get this to work on the PBX?

connect the modem to your PC at your baud rate set up on the TTY port

1. Power off the Modem
2. Set Dip Switch 1,3,5,8 Down; Set Dip Switch 2,4,6,7 Up
3. Power up the Modem and program it as follows (set your terminal for 9600,N,8,1
AT&F
AT&B1&W&W1
4. Power down the Modem and set Dip Switches 1,4 Down; 2,3,5,6,7,8 Up
5. Power Up

I am getting garbage when I press return. The PBX SSC card is set to 4800 with the dip switch. Can I program the modem to match the 4800 baud rate? I do not want to change the dip switch settings on the PBX. The last time I did that it crashed the switch. ( I am assuming the baud rate is the reason for the garbage)

yes, you need to determine the baud rate of the pbx tty port and then open a procomm session at the same baud and connect the modem, set the dips switches and turn it on, enter the at string and turn off themodem, set the switches one more time and then connect it to the pbx

Just to clarify:
When the modem was setup initially, I connected at 9600 and programmed the modem with the AT strings.
You are suggesting that I should now connect to the modem at 4800 and enter the strings again. Then when I connect to the PBX the speed will be correct and there should be no garbage. Please confirm. Thanks.

yes, if you are at 4800 on the pbx port, you need to set up that modem for that speed.. with your pc at that speed..

Setting the speed on the pbx dip switch to match the speed of the modem worked. Thanks
