how to print illustrator9 files without illustrator?

hi,
what is the best format to save an illustrator9 file, so i can bring it to the print shop, and still have it printed out with the same quality as printing right out of illustrator while the print shop doesnt have illustrator?

what do that have?
Freehand, Quark, and ugg.. even Corel Draw can print the file if you save it as an .eps. a .pdf is your best bet but if your printer couldnt even suggest an alternative, they probably dont know anything about .pdf's as well.
