I am an old user of Ventura Publisher, Version 1.1 (the first version), and I could write text in WordStar with some Tag styles. When the document was opened in Ventura, it was completedly formatted. Is that possible with Page Maker? I also need how to make a word index. I make programs in Visual Foxpro... if someone tells me how can I managed formatted text in pagemaker, i wil probably make a database of words.

Ventura is the godfather of quark and in quark there are extensions that make it possible to pretag a text file so that the tags aretaken in quark and format the text.
Pagemaker allows the user to work more freely as a dtp-man/woman.
What you can do in pagemaker is put a unique sign that is not used in the rest of your document and put it before the paragraph you wan't to be put in a certain style.
Import the text in your pagemaker document and use the text editor toopen it in your pagemakerfile.
Before this you must define the paragraph styles you wan't to use.
In the text editoryou can do a find looking for the specific chosen sign delete the sign and apply the wanted paragraph style.
