I have to manage a huge lot of pictures (500) in my document but its not possible to place more than one picture by one step. Moreover I have no idea how to write a action for batch-processing to integrate several picture by one step into the document. Is there any idea? Is there anyone who knows a plug-in?

The closest workaround that I can think of off the top of my head is to collect all the images in a *.psd in Photoshop, each on its own layer, then place the *.psd and leave the layers intact, and then you can manipulate all the images as separate objects...

This might be better suited for Photoshop. If you use the Contact sheet under automate, you can replicate the page size of the Ill doc, make other selections and batch it. Once that's done, you can move the images using various PS tools.

Then you can move that product into ILL.

Using OSX 10.3.8 on a G4

Sounds like you should be working with layout app ie. Quark or InDesign :p 500 imbedded images in an illustrator file just sounds dirty.. :p
