Hi,
I would like to know how to password protect a directory only using explorer security.
What I want to do, is to only allow access to a dir (ex. to one person, so when I type the URL to access it, a password dialog box pops up asking for credentials. How can this be done without having to recur to IIS, preferencially only using explorer directory security.

Thank you.

To accomplish this you must have access to manage IIS. To allow access to the folder, Right click on this folder (does not have to be in the website directory) select Sharing>Web Sharing>Share This Folder, leave Read and Scripts checked, click OK. Navigate to the folder you just shared, Right click>Properties>Security>Permissions Add Administrators and the User to access the folder, remove Everyone, give the user full access, check Replace permissions on subdirectories then click OK. We aren't done yet... Launch Internet Service Manager, find the directory you just shared, right click>Properties>Directory Security>Edit then remove Allow Anonymous, and check Basic authentication, leave NT Challenge/Response Checked. This will prompt Inet users for Name - Password - Domain.
Works for me always!!!
