hi all,

I'm not sure this is possible. Can a dts package accept a parameter when it is "called" ?

SQL Server 2000

Thanks. John

Hey John,

Depending on how you are 'calling' the DTS, the answer is... maybe. What you are looking for is the global variable. Have a look here
However, I have read that Global Variables will not be supported in 2005, and because of this i might need to prioritize rewriting a LOT of packages in the near future! So, beware.

What is the information you want to get into your package? It may be something that you can get via other means.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Ouch! Yeah I've used global variables. I suppose 2005 has an alternative to GVs; I'll have to research that.

I posted this for one of our developers - I'm not exactly sure how he intends to use it.

BTW this post is unrelated to my other post today - I will try your idea tomorrow.

Many thanks. John
