I am working with "SurveyTracker plus" Software which uses different controls for creating surveys. For some reason this software "support just languages that use single-byte fonts or character sets. Languages that use double-byte fonts or more advanced character sets are not supported".
In some controls such as “Header” or “Note” system allows to copy and paste text. However, more complicated controls (such as “Questions “) have an incorporated inner editor which does not support certain languages like Russian or Chinese or Hebrew and generates unfamiliar symbols instead. The thing is that this editor does not accept images…just text….

I wonder if there is any oblique way to overcome the issue through different common softwares conversions or something like that?
Hopefully somebody can give me an idea...Thank you in advance,

Katrin

Turkbear, thank you for the response. It looks, however, that this site is for transliteration purpose only. The thing is that I was already able to transliterate text into Russian, for ex. like
"?????????? ?? ? ??? ????????? ????? ? ????? ?????? ???, ????? ? ???? ????????? ????????????? ?"

When I input this russian text into software editor I initially can see that it looks like russian text, However , when I press "apply" button it is not supported. The same is with Chinese.

According to the software help menu, "support just languages that use single-byte fonts or character sets. Languages that use double-byte fonts or more advanced character sets are not supported".

I wonder how to change settings so that it converts into a single-byte fonts (if they are not)?

99% of the double-byte characters do not have a single-byte character replacement.
The best bet would be to actually translate the foreign language text into English, and put that in your non-unicode/non-double-byte supported application.

With the current software you want to use, you cannot. . .

They DO say "not supported". . .

TonHu & papadba, actually I translated and pasted. However when I run, system does not accept it.

For Cyrillic I installed KOI8-R ONE-BYTE font as well as CP-1251 (WINDOWS) one-byte font and was able to see them through MS Word combo box.(following http:/winrus.com/fonts_e.htm)

So far, as long as it is doable to replace cyrillic double-byte font with one-byte one ,it is not just a replacement problem anymore. I have a feeling that I need to do one more step (no idea what.....)

Or at least, it is not so obvious, that Survey Tracker Plus does not support Cyrillic just because it is a double-byte font....

Don't you think so?

No one of my very experienced group of peers has yet found a way to "squeeze" all possible values of 2 bytes into one single byte. I suspect they never will. . .

When the vendor says they do not support "something" (i.e. Cyrillic), i tend to believe them.

Have you written to the vendor and asked if this is a planned enhancement?

If they do not now support what you want and they have no plan to do so, it is time to look for some other way to implement what you want.

That is what I was going to do after I had found the following article:
This is about a replacement of double-byte cyrillic font with a single one or rather with a combination of fonts: KOI8-R (not MS) as well as CP-1251 (WINDOWS)
I installed them but still failed to run the application. Hopefully the author of the article will bring the idea...
