We have installed several systems using Disconnect Supervision in areas serviced by Sprint.

Now we are trying to do a job in a BellSouth area and they have NO idea of what we are asking for.

We have tried the following:
Disconnect Suprevision
Central Office Disconnect
Cut-off Disconnect

Any other names we could try?

We will be installing a CICS with CP100.
The Call Pilot will have Outbound transfer implemented.
The lines in the KSU must be supervised, ie. looking for a signal from the CO. (opening of the pair)

Thus, the CO needs to be told to send that signal.
So we need to order "disconnect supervision " on the lines.
If we don't, the lines will never be released by the system.

No, actually disconnect supervision is the term you are looking for..

It is usually on the lines by default (at least out here in the west,) so maybe that’s why they don’t know what you are talking about. I never specify it when ordering lines. I only have to call about it when its not working, which has never happened on standard analog lines, but occasionly on T-1’s.
It may also to be refered to as:
Calling Party Control (CPC) or
Open Loop Disconnect

Here we have to tell them that we want it. But we just say we want Supervision on the line. Verizon is the carrier.

Or if they really don't have a clue, tell them you want the lines to disconnect when somebody hangs up but you are still on the phone.
It seems weird that they wouldn't know.

I have never had to ask for this and Verizon is 95% of carriers in my area (wash DC). I set disconnect supervision on each line in the Nortel system and they have always worked fine with verizon as the carrier. I have had some problems with other providers (uslec etc.) But we have always worked it out with the provider. Good luck. Sincerely

Problem Solved !!!

For those of you in the Central Florida area,
DS is an option on Sprint lines.....but standard on Bell South lines.

They called back two days later and said that "the local switch is an ESS5 which has DS hardwired into it" which is why nobody there heard of it.

Thanks to all who replied.

also there is no ds in las vegas nv.from sprint.when you call to ask for it no one at sprint seems to know what you are taking about.

just found out if you have sprint you must order it for each line @ $1.00 per line.

CJG3:

This is good information as I have branch offices in Florida with Sprint dial tone as well as BellSouth. I have been told the same thing about DS from BellSouth but didn't know that about Sprint, good to know!

FYI, Since we are on the DS subject this is one of those that you file in your memory "Just in case"! I had a situation in Texas with SWB/SBC concerning DS that had us chasing the problem for 3 weeks. The problem wasn't in the CO as they verified that all 8 of my loop start lines had DS on them but 5 out of the 8 would hang up in the Flash vmail or if a line was on hold and the holding party would hang up, the call wouldn't release. During that 3rd week of troubleshooting this problem we found that 5 of the 8 lines were on fiber and the building had an old SLC96 remote terminal in the basement and the 3 lines that worked were copper fed. They never figured out why the DS wouldn't work as they swapped out many cards in the RT and we finally had the 5 lines change to copper facilities and the problem was resolved. So if you have issues with DS the CO is one piece of the puzzle but you must consider what type of facilities the lines are riding to prem or with CLECS make sure you account for channel banks or IADs (Integrated Access Devices). Anyway, Just an FYI!

trabra,
We had the same issue with an Option 11. It was very tough explaining to the telco that it was there problem.
