Until recently I found out how to remove photo editor from my pc, so now I can open picture files (like JPGs) with internet explorer. My problem is that each time I click on a new file to open it a new window appears. I want all files to open in the same windows, the way it used to be before. How can I do this? I am using internet explorer 6...just in case

Tools - Internet Options - Advanced
Check the 'Reuse windows...' checkbox The solution is out there. [morning]

Thanks for the info. I have a new problem. I re-installed windows 98, and even though I checked the reuse window...box it's not working. I am still opening files in new windows and not in the same window. Got any idea what may be causing this?
Another problem: the preview of a file that always appears on the botton left part in a folder (while browsing pics) does not appear. Do I need to install anything?
Thanks.

and I tried to clicking on File - > quickview and a message appeared saying: There in no viewer capable of viewing GIF FILE files

Take a look at this and see if that is what you're after regarding the preview problem:

"open explorer, view, folder options, file types, scroll down to jpg and select internet explorer or a different file viewer program as the associated program."

As for the one where you get a new window when opening files instead of staying within the same window: it sounds like you are talking about files saved on your machine and NOT web pages while browsing, right? If that is the case, I think all you need to do is go to: My Documents; click on Tools>Folder Options; then select the option that gives you folders withint the same window instead of a new one. I am doing some amount of guessing because I am on a later version.

Don't be a stranger for six months with what happens either, okay?

Thank you!! What I did was go to that page, and downloaded an .INF file and that solved the problem! I have back the preview feature, and now I can open files in the same window. Thanks a lot!!!!!
