How to open 2 Powerpoint Presentations in different windows 1

Hi all,

I have two power point presentations I would like to open at the same time, in seperate windows.

I cannot seem to do this. If I open the application again it opens the original window.

is there any way of running 2 instances of powerpoint?

(I have dual screens and I am trying to display one presentation on one screen and another on the other).

It must be possible.... I've searched everywhere...

thanks for that XLhelp but it doesn't do what I need it to.

It does appear to have some useful add-ons for PowerPoint, but nothing that will help me display two sepearate instances of powerpoint.

More suggestions please...

Powerpoint is a single instance application.

Workarounds are to use two different powerpoint versions on the same PC, installed in different folders.

Or use full powerpoint and the free powerpoint viewer

I have already played with the work around. It is fine, except you cannot edit both at once, and the PPViewer is so limited, it's basically no good for anything but viewing.

What I really need to do is edit 2 PP presentations at the same time, copying and pasting from one to the other.

Ideally, I'd like to use the same version of PP.

Does anyone know of any application that can do this?? or at least vary the "Start in" folder the application runs from. I was wondering if there was any way of duplicating the application to run from a different location?

Any more ideas??

Found an article on the net that suggests you can show two PP presentations by opening one in PP, and then imbedding the other in an Excel spreadsheet.

Not sure if you can edit both, but it might be worth a try. The instructions for doing this, I've cut and paste below, but have been unable to test as I don't have PP on the machine I am currently working on. Instructions therefore are untested. Hope it works though......

Can not do 2 PowerPoint shows side-by-side using PowerPoint native, so,...
Can do 2 side-by-side one with PowerPoint and one with Word or Excel
Can not do 2 Word for some reason, but
Can do as many as you like with Excel.

TO DO ONE
Open new Instance of Excel with Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office>Excel
Tools>Options>View> Uncheck Gridlines Row + Column Headers + Scroll Bars + Sheet tabs>OK (otherwise you get excel ugly stuff all around your show)
Size Window to taste
Click in Excel Sheet. Insert>Object>From File>Browse [some1.ppt]
Edit>Presentation object>Edit>Slide SHow>Set Up Show>Check on Browsed by an Individual Window+Loop continuously+Using timings>OK
Slide Show>Transition..>Check on Advance Slide Automatically after 00:0x>Apply to All Slides>Close transition pane
Size Powerpoint Slide to taste within Excel window (may take some back and forth after next step)
Edit>Presentation Object>Show (click on show and hit Esc to stop show - or use MenuBar (Slide Show)toolbar somewhere on screen File>End Show )

REPEAT WITH some2.ppt
etc.
