Hi:

I have an Windows NT 4 Terminal Server. We have a drive (G:) that has our data on it. I want to back up the files(AS IS) into a folder on my Win XP desktop, but when I do this I get an error message saying that the filename is too long to copy. When I press OK, the files stop copying completely.

IS there a wat to move all the files (and there directory structure) directly to a FOLDER on my Win Xp Desktop.

I can't change the filenames to make them shorter, there are too many of them to do one at a time.

My backup software and drive does not work, and if I can figure this out, I can try upgrading the Windows Terminal Server to a Win 2003 server box.

Thanks in advance.

Use this old trick which always worked for me. Create a SUBSTituted drive using the DOS SUBST command as follows;

SUBST <new drive letter> G:\dir1\subdir\subdir2 (up to 255 chars)

From there go to <new drive letter> and copy away
