Hello everyone,

I have installed and configured Oracle 8i On Redhat Linux and things work fine.
Now I need to move my data from Sql server 7.0 On microsoft NT 4.0 to Oracle 8i on Linux.

Here are the things I did
1. On the NT Server I simply tried to export the data using DTS to Oracle using the Microsoft ole db provider for Oracle. It failed, the message says that I have to have oracle client installed on the machine.
I tried ODBC, same problem.
2. I installed Oracle client 8i and now different errors. During the install I run a test connection to the oracle server and it was ok. "ORA-12560: TNS protocol adapter error.

Can you guys help.
Thanks

It means that your tnsnames in your client is not properly configured. Use Net8 Config assistant to do this. Checka also if the listener in your server side is started.

To check listener, type:

lsnrctl start
