I have several GPOs that install software. I am having to move the software installpoint to a new server. I can not find any way to edit the existing GPOs to change the location of the softwareinstallpoint. Does anybody know any way to edit these GPOs so i dont have to recreate them from scratch.

thanks for any suggestions

I have had to rebuild mine when changing the paths. This sucks, because of future removal issues.

Keep the one you have and create new ones. This allows you flexibility in the future of removal of the installed software. But this also means the original install point would have to remain.

If the new install point is in the same path BUT NEW SERVERNAME only...then I would suggest trying an alias(CNAME) representing the old server(if being removed)...it might work.

NOTE: you cannot change the path to another software distribution point without redeploying the software package. Redeploying software can be quite intrusive to users because it automatically removes the application on computers where the software is already installed. If the software is assigned, it is reinstalled automatically

i was afraid of all that...but was hoping it wasnt that hopeless...

There are a couple of applications that I have considered creating "fictitious" cname records for, users home directories for example, and now this software install business, but I was reluctant to go that route. I think with the software install business though I'll go the cname route when i recreate those install packages.

thanks for all the replies.
