Win2003 AD Domain with Folder Redirection for My Documents.

It appears that when you have My Documents redirected to a folder on a server that the user needs to be the owner of that folder for the redirection to work.

With that in mind,
We are bringing up a new file server and need to migrate all of these redirected home dirs to a new server. I am aware of the change that needs to be made in Group Policy but since Permissions to not carry over when copying from server to server, how do I make these permissions the same on the new server?

Or, would it be as simple as changing the GPO to point to the new server and the clients will re-create the data from the local copy?

Use Robocopy

About to do the exact thing this weekend. There are two important switches...can't recall them but type robocopy /? and you'll be given examples. You want to include the switch for all subfolders as well as security attributes.

/E /SEC

or if you wanted owner information and auditing information as well use /COPYALL instead of /SEC.

Hey

RoboCopy is working great on all of the data except for the My Documents redirected folders. Each user is the Owner of the folder and even i (domain admin)cannot access them without takeing ownership of the folder.
I have copied 300gig worth of files an for the most part Robocopy is awsome!!!

How do i get around the Access denied issue in the Redirected My Documents?

I believe there is a /B switch or similar with Robocopy which should work. It would be treated as a backup allowing access as long as the account you are using has at least backup operator rights.
