Hi guys,
we have some trouble migrate from DS4500 to DS8k.
How AIX 5.3 have 2 FC adapters
I put 1 zone with DS4x disks (the old one), and 1 zone with DS8x new disks. I installed all rte packages on the server. All it's ok
Now to migrate data I make this:
extendvg -> vgds4x adding hdisk from DS8k
mirrorvg

after that I would keep the possibility to don't loose my old data, which is the better way? unmirrorvg or splivg?

Txs all

IMHO both splitvg & unmirroring should have the same effect!

Regarding the FCs, how many FCs do you expect your system to have? It seems to me one should be connected to each DS!

lsdev -C | grep fc?

I have 1 path to DS4x with 1 controller, and 1 vpath to 1 ds8k controller

the original vg have 4 hdisk

so what i have done it's to add 4 new hdisk
extendvg
mirrorvg
splitvg -y vgprod -c 1 vgbackup

now the vgprod have the disks from ds8k
if I use that vg I could mount it etc etc
If I delete dac0, fcs0 and fcs1 for obtain a clear config

when I varyonvg -> 0516-013 varyonvg: The volume group cannot be varied on because there are no good copies of the descriptor area

Was there any paging space on the vg because the splitvg command is not supported for a volume group that has an active paging space.

I'd try the mirror, then unmirror the DS4k, reducevg by the DS4k disks, export the vg, rmdev all fibre adapters and devices and cfgmgr or reboot.

Obviously back it all up first.

It is not clear, do you have the DS4k zoned for one fbre adapter and he DS8k zoned for the other adapter? because it is not supported to have both DS4k and DS8k on the same adapter.

Yes the zone is 1 adapter for the Ds4k and 1 for the DS8k, my goal it's to keep a valid copy of my data when I break my mirror... I now unmirror command but in that way I lose everything, no a lot of experience with splitvg and splitlvcopy...
