We have a windows 2000 server with a single physical
disk drive.

That has been partitioned as C:\ and D:\ drive.

Now C:\ drive is running out of space , and
we have enough space in D:\ drive.

Is there a way i can get some free space from D:drive and give it to C:\ drive.

I cannot install any third party tools to do this job.

Any help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

---Thanks
Cathy

You need to use partitioning software such as partition magic, this will allow you to resize C and D or merge the two without loosing data.

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

The thing is I cannot install any 3rd party tools
to this partition,

1) Probably the software (partition magic) requires
more space to install.
2) And moreover these softwares requires us to install
only on primary partition (which is C:\)
in my case, and i dont have space even to do
install it.

If you can install Partition Magic on ANY computer, you have an option inside to create Rescue disks. The first one is the boot floppy - the other one loads PM in DOS (therefore you don't need it to be installed on the machine you need to partition! AND you don't have to run it under Windows) You can then resize/partition or whatever to your heart's content!! In fact I always run PM like this as I don't like the idea of Windows being loaded while I am doing this kind of thing - it can (and has in the past) cause trouble running under Windows and I nearly lost my whole drive once using it like that - I was able to rectify (and save my partitions/data etc) by using the Rescue set - great!

Partition Magic will install in "D:\" drive with no trouble.
Then you just start it and follow the easy steps to merge the two partitions. It will take a good time (hour(s)) depending of the size of your HD.

Why not move some data from c: to d: in order to give yourself enough space on c: to install if it REALLY has to go on c:

I also suggest using Partition Magic. It runs from a floppy, no need to install it on the server.
