How to measure size in big file

I have a huge file (~1 gig) and want to measure how many bytes one part of the text is.

how to do this?

According to me the best option will be to copy the text and save it in a blank file...
The file size will show the size of the text.......

Hope this helps.....!
 
You may have to copy the contents that you are wanting to do the count on, into a seperate file, so you can check just that section of text.

But I think what you want is the sum command.
sum yourfilename

You can also check these commands:
fileplace yourfilename
wc yourfilename
