How to manipulate dates

Good afternoon, right now I´m working in a project and, in fact, I'm a newbie java programmer (after a while). I´m using Postgresql and Java for the project and I´m building the GUI with Swing. I would like to know how can I map a date value from/to postgresql and Java.

Things like put the actual date, retrieve the stored date, etc.
