Each time I double click a .doc file I get a new top-level Word window. How do I stop this?

Thanks!

Go to the Tools menu, then Options, click the View tab, deselect the 'Windows in Taskbar' option

It isn't a 'top level' Word window as such: it only looks like one. It is the difference between MDI and SDI (Mulitple/Single document interface). Are you using Word 2003 or Word XP (they have different solutions)?
