I have a wireless router (networkeverywhere) at my home
and its configured for DHCP with a KEY.

My laptop by default detects several wireless connections
in my apartment and shows up in the profiles.

IS THERE A WAY I CAN CONFIGURE MY LAPTOp TO CONNECT TO ONLY
MY WIRELESS ROUTER WHENEVER IT REBOOTS AND IGNORE THE REST.

HOW CAN I DO THIS ??

_--Thanks

welllllll... I have a follow up question

is it connecting to the other access points when you are at home? ...

Your laptop will only connect to the wifi networks that are in its trusted list... you can configure this list in the adapter properties. If you dont want to connect to specific networks then you can simply remove them from the list.

If you have more then one network available at home and they are both trusted.. in that same list you can change the priority by changing the order at the list.

--if the first one is available it will connect to that one.. if not it tries the second.. it connects to the first in the list and the strongest.

If that doesnt help please provide more info.

How are you managing your connections? Are you using Windows to connect to wireless? or are you using the WiFi cards manufacturer software? I know for Intel cards your are able to promote which network you connect to first. Also, the third party software usually works much better when using cards from companies like Linksys, D-Link, etc

Thata what is confusing me.

which one is better ?

Can i turn off the windows wireless option and use the
networkeverywhere wireless card what i have in my laptop.

The sony laptop has a built in wireless as well , but since my router is networkeverywhere i am using the wireless card from that as well.

What i see is when I use the networkeverywhere wireless card which is hooked to my laptop it connects to my wireless after i give the key and it drops immediate after 5 seconds ?

any reason as what might be causing this issue?

--thanks

John,

You can disable it in a few places.
Option 1:
The best spot - the bios. If you want it gone for good!
Becareful, disable from here may cause windows to reinstall network drivers. Make sure you have the Win CD!

Option 2:
Network Connections
Open Control Panel in Category View choose Network & Internet Connections, then Network Connections -- located at bottom. Then right click the connection and disable it.
or if Control Panel is in Classic View choose Network Connections. Then right click the connection and disable it.

Option 3:
Control Panel, System, Hardware(Tab), Device Manager(Button) Locate the WiFi or Network connection and right click choose properties, then check off Disable in this profile.

If your not that experianced with Windows Setup I'd suggest Option 2 or 3... It's the safest, and quickest way to restore it in the event the PCMCIA card goes.

Hope this helps...
