This is a tuffy! I want to make a smoke effect with text intermingled in the smoke. Think if smoke rising from a campfire and spelling out words. Kindof wispy and transpent-ish, if you catch my "drift" (HA! - couldnt resist!)

Anyone think they can help me on this one?! It seems flat impossible to me! But if I can pull it off, with someone's help, we will RULE THE WORLD!!!!

I'm using PS 5.0 - - sorry, it's all I got for now.

Please excuse the gross typos... Transparent-ish... sheesh.

Also I'm looking to make the smoke and the smoky text - not just the text itself.

Thanks again PS-maniacs!

-I'm one too! :) Knowledge enormous makes a God of me.

Hi,

What words do you want to have spelled out?

This might not be possible for 2 reasons:
1- You are using PS-5.0
2- You might need a 3rd party filter to assist you, and I'm not sure if your budget will allow for that.

I will try some things out, but I don't promise anything.

Perhaps someone else here will have a solution for you.

The only thing I have that is kind of close, is the smoke filter that is part of EyeCandy 4000, but even that isn't great.

Hope this helps! NATE

Spiderx -you rock. I've read tons of your posts and replies and used your advice with great success!

I do happen to have a brand new copy of PS 7.0 - but I'm holding off on installing it b/c I'm on the verge of buying a new comp - and dont want to run into problems registering the software twice (a la XP).

Right now I can't afford a 3rd party filter, unfortunately.

Oh yeah - the text is "Elevated Beat"

Thanks a million.

PS - we have the same name...

Hey NATE LOL - what's up?

Here is a version of what you might want. It is the smoke filter from EyeCandy 4000. The effect is ok, but I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or not.

Tell me what you think.

Hope this helps! NATE

Nate! That is very very cool! However, I was meddling around a created a decent effect myself just late last night! I used Rage Italic Text - painted it grey with a dark grey border and applied a thick WAVE texture to the text. - then on a layer above it spraypainted some gray streaks - applied generous amounts of Ripple and ZigZag to that layer and changed the opacity to around 30% - and I made decent looking smoke!
Then I just smudged the text layers and the smoke layers to create a sense of motion.

This might all sound jerry-rigged and elementary - but it really did create a decent effect.

But seriously - I thank you sincerely for taking the time to make that text for me. That just plain rocks steady :D

Many kudos and cheers to ya!

Can you show an example of what you did. I want to try that, that may be a good way to do smoke, I was going to do something sort of similar. I would have used difference clouds, and then used liquify and smudge. That's what I did to that pic actually once the smoke filter was applied.

You could experiment with curves and levels and add a layer mask to give a really good effect.

Later Man! NATE

No problem! I saved the whole image to an eps file. I dont have any webspace currently - and I doubt i could post it on here! Want me to email you a lossy jpeg? it would give you an idea of what I did- or if you have space - I could upload to that and you could delete it after you're done... Whatever's clever main!
