How to make part of a graphic transparent with Photoshop

Can you provide just a little more info? What is the end purpose of this graphic? web? print?

What format are you working in? JPG? TIFF? PSD?

If the image is destined for the web, then only GIF or PNG will support transparency. PNG is only supported partially at this time by different browsers, IE giving the least effective support and Mozilla/Netscape (newer releases) providing full support for the format.

If it is destined for print, TIFF does not support transparency, you will have to use clipping paths. Many print apps do not support PSD fully.

This link will help you in the future if you intend to seek help from user forums.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
