Hi,

i'm just a beginner working with Adobe Photoshop 5.5.
I try to make layers transparent, so that i can see
a part of the background through the layers.
I tried it with the gradient tool, but it ddidn't work
like i wanted.
Who can help me?

Thanks in advance

why don't you try changing the transparency of the layer? you must have seen the slider on the toolbar on the right or whereever you have it.

Otherway i don't undestand your question

There are a few ways to accomplish transparency with layers...one, like millencolin noted, is to use the opacity slider...you might want to consider the layer mask...it's the icon located at the bottom of the layers pallet that looks like a circle in a square. Select your layer, click this icon...now in the new preview, next to the layer preview, you can paint with black to reveal the layer below your selected one...play with it...it will make more sense.
Also, check the number of books for beggining PS users!
